Weekend Picks: Homecoming, Fire Hire and Rocktoberfest

Here are a few things to do in and around Brighton this weekend.

It’s Thursday, and you’ve got no idea what you’ll do for the weekend. Don't worry: Patch is coming to the rescue. We’ve got the best bets for your done-work-outta-here time. Check out our picks for this weekend:

1. Homecoming Parade & Football Game

Where/when: From Church and Main Street to , 6 p.m. Friday.

Why go? Watch the Brighton High School homecoming parade as the 2011 homecoming court, Brighton Schools administrators and fall sports teams make their way down Main Street to the Dog Pound high school football field at 6 p.m. Then stay to cheer on the football team as it takes on Howell High School at 7 p.m.

Pricing: Parade is free. Tickets for the football game go on sale at 2:30 p.m. and cost $5.

2. Great Pumpkin Classic Car Show Fundraiser

Where/when: Tanger Outlets, 1475 N. Burkhart Rd., Howell. 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday.

Why go? The fourth annual fundraiser will raise money for the Livingston County Salvation Army. Registration for the car show ends at noon Saturday. Judging for the car show takes place at 3:30 p.m. A drive-in movie starts at 7 p.m.

Pricing: $20 for car registration, $5 for drive-in movie admission.

3. Brighton Fire Hire Open House

Where/when: , 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday.

Why go? The Brighton Area Fire Department, Howell Fire Department and Hartland Fire Departments are hosting employment open houses at their respective locations for paid on-call firefighters. Those interested can come learn about the job requirements, application process and speak to Brighton firefighters and human resources personnel. Training for certification will be provided; candidates must reside in one of the department jurisdictions.

Pricing: Free.

4. Brighton's Classic Rocktoberfest

Where/when: Hyne Street and Hyne Street parking lot, 1 p.m.-midnight Saturday.

Why go? Finish the summer at Brighton’s Classic Rocktoberfest with classic rock, your favorite fall foods, children's activities and much more. The Shawn Riley Band and Some Kinda Jones will perform. The beverage garden opens at 4 p.m., with live music starting at 6 p.m.

Pricing: $2 cover charge for the beverage garden.

5. 'I Love You, You're Perfect, Now Change'

Where/when: , 7 p.m. Saturday

Why go? Off-Broadway’s phenomenal longest-running musical celebrates the modern-day suburban mating game. The audience will fill the theater with laughter as the cast explores the joys of dating, romance, marriage, lovers, husbands, wives and in-laws.
