Fantasy of Lights Parade Names Brighton Resident as Grand Marshal

George Moses to lead Fantasy of Lights Parade on Nov. 29 in Howell

He’s chronicled the event that kicks off the holiday season in Livingston County by taking photos before video-taping the parade from the reviewing stand. Prior to the parade, decked out in his holiday finery, Moses squires chamber President Pat Convery around Howell’s downtown. The two visit area businesses, spread holiday cheer and welcome the gathering crowds.

“It’s my favorite parade,” Moses said. “I love volunteering at it.  What a great honor,” he added. “I didn’t have to think for a micro-second about it. It’s going to be a blast.”

Convery is thrilled that her pre-parade partner will lead the event this year.

“He’s been such a champion of the Fantasy of Lights,” she said. “Beyond that, he’s a tireless community volunteer in so many ways, including working at balloonfest every year.
“If we need anything, George is always there to help in any and every way he can.”

Moses owns The Marketeer, which has published in Livingston County since 1974. In addition to being a successful business owner, Moses is one of the most visible community volunteers in Livingston County, active with a number of organizations, including the Howell Area Chamber of Commerce, Sunrise and Brighton Rotary groups, Optimists, Home Builders Association, and Livingston Association of Realtors. He also serves on the boards of Work Skills Corp. and the VINA Dental Clinic.

An avid cyclist, Moses logged over 1,500 miles this year, including 62 at the annual Tour de Livingston. As he has for the past three years, Moses won the top jersey prize by raising the most money — $3,200 – for the Tour.

Moses, who lives in Brighton, belongs to the League of Michigan Bicyclists, the Ann Arbor Biking Touring Society, and the League of American Bicylists.

At the moment, though, Moses is looking forward to serving as the Fantasy of Lights Parade Grand Marshal. He’ll ride in the parade with his wife, Melanie, wearing his usual Fantasy tuxedo with thermal underwear beneath.

“And I won’t be doing the photography this year,” he said. “I’ll have to get used to being in the picture for a change.”

The 30th annual Fantasy of Lights is on Friday, Nov. 29 in downtown Howell. Activities begin at 4 p.m., followed by the Fantasy 5K at 6 and the start of the parade at 7. Major sponsor of the Fantasy of Lights is Cobb-Hall Insurance. Supporting sponsors are Citizens Insurance and Blue Care Network of Michigan. Champion Automotive Group is the Fantasy 5K Platinum Sponsor.
