What Trick-or-Treating Behavior Upsets You?

A Patch reader says she is tired of older children and adults ruining Halloween.

A Dearborn resident recently submitted a letter to the editor to Patch setting suggestions for trick-or-treaters.

Some of her guidelines included:

  • You must be able to walk from your house to all the other houses you visit.
  • You must be a child old enough to say "trick-or-treat," and too young to drive yourself to the store to buy your own candy.
  • Parents, there is no trick-or-treating for your baby, sick child or yourself.
Her comments caused quite a stir among Patch readers.

Melinda Reeber posted "I'm an east sider and NOT a big fan of Halloween anymore / I've had over 200 "people" coming / few of which I actually knew - large groups of uncostumed adults and teenagers has become dangerously intimidating / lights off over here now."

Emma Pelker commented, "I agree that Halloween is for younger kids and I'm in my early 20's. I don't like seeing teenagers and young adults whether they're in costume or not and as for parents with babies, we all know a 1year old isn't eating candy."

Claus von Bulow said "Wow, the entire Scrooge family has made an early appearance this year. If you don't like it, turn out the lights."

What are your "rules" for trick-or-treaters? What upsets you? Or do you think "rules" ruin the fun of the holiday? Tell us in the comments.
