Events to make winter bearable

LINDEN -- Shining a light on the bright side of winter is part of events which celebrate the holiday season.

Camp Linden in Linden will serve as the backdrop for the Festival of Lights events hosted by the Girl Scouts Heart of Michigan.

The Festival of Lights program will be from 5-8 p.m. Dec. 13-14 and Dec. 20 and 21 at the Girl Scouts Heart of Michigan camp and is open to the public.  Activities include a winter tour and night hike; a presentation of campfire stories; and the opportunity to learn about winter customs in other countries.   Participants will be able to enjoy complimentary cocoa, cider, donuts and other treats while basking in the winter glow.

Jenn Cook, GSHOM Outdoor Adventure Specialist, said this event is a great opportunity to have some fun and find ways to enjoy winter.

“The lights we put around our camps for Festival of Lights are worth the price of admission alone,” Cook said.  “We know that winter can be long and people are reluctant to leave the warmth of their homes to venture outside.  We hope that this event will give them ideas about the many ways they can enjoy winter.”
