March Madness for Livingston County Special Olympics!

March Madness close to home! 5 Livingston County Basketball teams head to Grand Rapids to compete in the State Special Olympics Basketball Tournament!

Livingston County is sending 5 teams to the Special Olympics State Basketball tournament! WOW! Statewide, 700 athletes, coaches and chaperones will gather as athletes compete on March 22-23 in Rockford during the 2013 State Basketball Finals. About 350 volunteers will also be on hand to provide support, encouragement and cheers! The two day competition is hosted by the Grand Rapids Jaycees.  Tournament play includes divisions for senior males (ages 16 and up), junior males (ages 8-16), females and skills athletes. In addition to team play, there is also a skills competition for athletes who are not able to compete in a team setting. Basketball skills such as shooting and dribbling will be measured. The skills competition provides athletes who may not be ready for team play an opportunity to work on specific skills related to the sport. Our athletes will travel to the Grand Rapids area tomorrow afternoon and work hard to bring the hardware home to Livingston County!
