7 tips for long term wellness!

Wellness is a lifelong endeavor. Here are some tips to help!

Every single one of us is in a different state of health. Some of us are healthier than a year, month, day ago while some of us are less healthy. Don’t compare yourself to others and where they are. Focus on YOUR health and where YOU’RE at. Once you come to grips with that you can begin to make positive changes to your normal routines.

Fad diets come and go and they’re rarely sustainable. Identify those things you're able to change and start with that. If you change too much too quickly you'll end up frustrated and at the bottom of a carton of ice cream. Being full of ice cream and guilt just isn't a pleasent place to be! Small permanent changes add up to big health benefits!

Most of us aren't elite athletes and most of us aren't complete couch potatoes. We're living busy lives somewhere in the middle. The great news is that yesterday is over and today is a great day to be healthier! It doesn't take fancy gym memberships or informercial thighmasters. All you need is a good pair of shoes for walking. As you feel stronger you can add more challenging things. Most people know where they're at, start there and build!

Many people don't even think about how chiropractic can help them with meeting their health goals. Take this into consideration. Our bodies are controlled by our brains and spinal cords. Chiropractors work with that system specifically. The goal isn't to reduce aches and pains but to reconnect your body and nervous system. The side effect of that many times is the reduction in symptoms. However the true benefit is having that optimal connection between your nervous system and your body.

Here are seven quick tips to help you along the way!

1. Drink more water! Replacing high calorie drinks with water will make a huge difference (don't get me started on artficial sweeteners, that's a different blog post).

2. Speaking of ice cream... If you have a craving for something have a little and be done with it. This avoids scraping the bottom of an ice cream carton as mentioned above.

3. Set some goals. If it's not written down it doesn't exist. The act of writing the goals triggers a switch in your brain to get it done!

4. Don't forget to sleep. Adequate rest is largely forgotten but our bodies remember. Rest allows our body to rebuild and rejuvenate.

5. Keep eating...wait, what? Yes you need to keep eating. If you skip meals to skimp on calories your body thinks it's starving and slows the metabolism.

6. Have patience. It took time to get where you are, it will take time to reverse it. Stick with it and celebrate the little victories along the way!

7. Get your spine checked. Having that connection between your brain and body will help everything function better leading to a healthier you!
