Brighton City Council Member Leads Mission Trip

City council member Chad Cooper will lead his second mission trip to Guatemala in the coming weeks.

Leading his second mission trip to Guatemala, Brighton City Council member Chad Cooper will be helping to change the lives of widowed women and children in Guatemala.

As part of the First Presbyterian Church in Brighton, Cooper, and his team will be building houses and stoves for families who can’t afford them.

“The mud houses they build have no chance in hurricanes and heavy storms,” Cooper wrote in an email. “The makeshift cooking fires they put together often burn the children and use three-fourths more wood than those we build.”

The indoor stoves that the mission teams install during their builds also provide better air quality and prevent burn injuries as well. The team will be installing a new stove in a previously built home, according to Cooper that will help the children of the home breathe clean air.

“I have experienced this smoke first hand and I was coughing for days myself because it is so thick in the hut/home and throughout the village,” Cooper wrote.
