Brighton Deputy Honored in Oakland County

John Bennington named Corrections Officer of the Year.

Oakland County Sheriff Michael Bouchard honored seven members of his department during a ceremony Tuesday on the county campus in Pontiac. 

Deputy John Bennington of Brighton was honored as Corrections Officer of the Year.

"Since 2002 he has been an integral part of the training unit’s success," said Undersheriff Mike McCabe during a presentation of the award. About 100 people attended the ceremony, which also honored citizen heroes.

McCabe said Bennington's attention to his job has brought about innovation under the tenet of "doing more with less."

"His professionalism, fortitude and pleasantness demonstrated on a daily basis are a few of the contributing factors in productivity in the training unit," McCabe said.
