Week of Caring at WSC Academy

(Brighton, Michigan) – The Brighton Campus of WSC Academy proudly completed a variety of service activities during its Week of Caring initiative.  The week included coordinated activities with multiple nonprofit organizations that transformed the week into an outstanding service effort to benefit the local community.

“By serving our community, our students are demonstrating that they have a commitment that will lead them to be responsible citizens and future leaders.  This is just the beginning of a monthly option for students to serve their community,” said Travis Batt, Principal of WSC Academy.

The community service projects that the students completed included:

  • Creating 50 origami flowers for clients at the Be Our Guest Adult Day Care program of Livingston Catholic Charities
  • Decorating 55 paper bags for recipients of delivered meals from the Meals on Wheels program of Livingston County Senior Nutrition Program
  • Collecting 304 pounds of food and toiletries for Gleaners Community Food Bank
  • Delivering all items to each organization

WSC Academy is a tuition-free, public charter school serving students in grades 9-12. WSC Academy offers flexible scheduling and a choice of project based learning (PBL) for traditional students who want real-world connections to their education, or credit recovery for students who need alternative options for completing a high school diploma.  Both programs utilize a technology enriched classroom and a self-paced curriculum.
