Weekend Planner: 'Legally Blonde, The Musical', Free Fitness Boot Camp, Park Hike and Open Mic

Here's a look at what's happening around the Brighton area this weekend.

1.

Where: , 7878 Brighton Rd, Brighton

When:  7:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 13 and Saturday, Jan. 14 as well as 4:30 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 15

Cost: $15 for most adult tickets; $13 for students/seniors; they'll cost $1 more at the door, if available.

(The $40 Red Carpet Gala tickets are available for the Saturday, Jan. 14 performance only, including a red carpet walk, VIP seating, a private reception with refreshments at intermssion and an afterglow party at Downtown Main featuring hors d’œuvres and a cash bar.)

Why go: Enjoy a great and historic production, since Brighton High School is the first high school in the country to license Legally Blonde, The Musical.

Where: St. Mary Magdalen Parish, 2201 S. Old US Highway 23, Brighton Township

When: 8:30-9:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 14

Cost: Free; it's strongly suggested to bring a water and a mat or towel for floor exercises.

Why go: Offered by My Stronger Self, this free coed boot camp includes fun cardio and strength exercises in the church's gymnasium during the cold months. Those who have taken part in the weekend boot camps have enjoyed a decrease in weight as well as body fat and midsection; in addition, their strength, energy and confidence has increased among a great group of supportive people.

Where: Kensington Metropark (Nature Center), 2240 W. Buno Road, Milford

When: 9:30-11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 14

Cost: $5 park entry fee unless you have purchased an annual Metroparks pass ($25 for all but seniors, who pay $15).

Why go: Children three and older as well as their parents can enjoy being in the outdoors in a beautiful setting; event includes a short hike and feed the chickadees sunflower seeds.

Where: , 423 W. Main St., Brighton

When: 9:30-11:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 14

Cost: Free

Why go: Join some of the moms from this group for some coffee and socialization and learn more about us.

Moms and Tots of Brighton, Inc. is a nonprofit organization dedicated to meeting the needs of all mothers. The group consists of playdates, outings, mom's night out, family events, community service projects, special interest groups, etc.

When: noon-6 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 14

Cost: Free 

Why go: The event's hosted by Bob Clark of the Michigan Musicians Collective. Come out to support your talented local musicians and maybe even perform a jam session of your own!
