Art Gallery Donated by WLPG

The Whitmore Lake Portrait Group (WLPG) invites you to their first exhibit in the new lobby gallery of the Northfield Township Senior Center at 9101 Main Street. I blogged about this project earlier in the year, and now it is a reality!   WLPG donated and installed the hanging system and signage, and is handling the rotating exhibit schedule which will feature new art every 8 weeks by WLPG artists. Showing are 10 portraits in all media created by the artists who meet on Monday afternoons to draw and paint models who sit for them. Artists work independently with no instruction but share tips on techniques to sharpen skills in a supportive environment.
I have served as the group's coordinator since 2007, and we have always donated to the senior center. This time we purchased and installed the gallery hanging system. Open to the public during normal center hours, the gallery showcases the talent of the longest-standing activity of the center--the Whitmore Lake Portrait Group started when the center opened in 1997.
The most senior member currently attending regularly is Whitmore Lake resident Joe Comps at age 84. But don't be fooled--although seniors, the artists represent some of the finest talent in the region and often win awards in Michigan and nationally for their current works. Several of them won awards in the recent Dexter Paint Out. Most of the portraits on exhibit are for sale. Now exhibiting are: Peggy N. Brewer, Karen Deslierres, Julie Griess, Sarah Grusin, Cathy Hetherington, WanChuan Kesler, Richard Larson, Barbara Maxson, Deborah Scharp, and Jill Stefani Wagner. For more information, contact the senior center at 734-449-2295.
