Beeping Package Brings Michigan State Police Bomb Squad to Brighton FedEx Store

The squad discovered a cell phone inside a soft envelope for shipping.

A suspicious package giving off a beeping sound brought the Michigan State Police Bomb Squad to the Brighton FedEx store on Grand River Avenue around 11:30 a.m. Monday.

Brighton Police Chief Tom Wightman said the MSP bomb squad responded and determined that it was a cell phone inside of a soft package.

Someone handling the package inadvertently set off an alert tone on the phone, according to Wightman.

After making sure it was not a hazard, the package was processed for shipping by FedEx.

"Although it turned out to be nothing, we prefer to proceed cautiously in such matters for the safety of all involved," Wightman said.
