Brighton Mayor Appointed Chair of the Brighton Area Fire Authority

Mayor Jim Muzzin was elected to serve as board chairman at the Thursday morning meeting of the Brighton Area Fire Authority.

Brighton Mayor Jim Muzzin was unanimously elected to serve as board chairman during the Brighton Area Fire Authority (BAFA) Organizational and Board meeting on Thursday, according to a press release from Brighton Area Fire.

Muzzin replaces former chair and Brighton Township Treasurer Lana Theis.

“I feel so honored to have been able to serve Brighton Area Fire Authority as Chair," Theis said. "It was a wonderful experience, but with my schedule this year, I will not have the time to dedicate to the job, that it deserves. I am grateful that I had the opportunity and hope that I will again be able to serve as chair at some time in the future. Mayor Muzzin is a wonderful leader who is also dedicated to the Authority. I’m sure that he will do a terrific job as chairman.”

The Board also elected Genoa Township Trustee Jim Mortensen as vice chairman, Brighton City Council member Larry Schillinger as treasurer and Member at Large Mike Corrigan as secretary.

“I am honored to serve such a distinguished Fire Authority. The Department is a model for the State.” Muzzin said “Lana Theis provided solid leadership over the past two years and I am grateful to have worked with her in that role.”

Muzzin has served on the Brighton Area Fire Authority Board since January 2007.
