Crime Report: Livingston County Sees String of Car Thefts

GPS stolen from unlocked car

A GPS device was stolen from an unlocked car on the 1600 block of W. View Trail, in Hartland Township between 11 p.m. Sunday and 7:45 a.m. Monday, said police from the Livingston County Sheriff's Department.

Police said the man forgot to lock his car and did not check it before bed as per usual. The Garmin Nuvi was valued at approximately $100. Also stolen was the silver storage container and power cord.

Truck stolen overnight

A 1998 white Dodge Dakota was stolen from the 1600 block of Helena Ave., in Hartland Township between 11 p.m. Sunday and 6 a.m. Monday, police said.

Police said the homeowner told them he had possession of both keys that went to the truck and that it was locked.

Police said they canvassed the area, but could not find the truck. It was entered into law enforcement database as stolen.

Truck stolen from apartment complex

A 2000 red Ford Ranger was stolen from the 2900 block of Lanier Court in Genoa Township between 11:30 p.m. Sunday and 1 a.m. Monday.

Police said the car owner parked his truck in front of his apartment and locked the doors. Police said the owner noticed the truck missing when he walked outside to have a cigarette.

Police said the owner purchased the car from his former boss and had the proper title which was signed over to him. Police said the owner did not have a receipt or bill of sale for the truck and according to motor vehicle records, the truck was still in the other man's name.

Police said they phoned the man asking if he knew the whereabouts of the truck and entered it into law enforcement database as stolen.

Man arrested attempting to steal baby formula

A 41-year-old South Lyon man was arrested on charges of retail fraud after attempted to steal infant formula from Walmart in Genoa Township in on July 18 around 10:50 a.m., police said.

Police said Walmart Loss Prevention spotted the man in the store and recognized him as being the same man who previously stole formula on July 14 and July 15.

Police said the man admitted to attempting to steal the formula, but denied doing it on the previous dates.

Police said the man stole $1,265.90 worth of merchandise from Walmart and had also stolen from the Hudson/Commerce store, so he would be prosecuted in Oakland County as well.

Lawn service truck, equipment stolen

A 2003 Isuzu Stake truck stolen from Beauchamp Lawn service, on N. Old 23 in Hartland Township, on July 18 between 2:21 a.m. and 3 a.m., police said.

The truck had 'Beauchamp Lawn and Snow' written on it.

Police said the truck was parked unlocked with the keys in it in a locked gated portion of the business. The gate was wide open and a lock was missing from the chain.

The truck contained two Shindiawa Weed Whip valued at $320 each; a Shindiawa edger valued at $250; two Exmark 60" ZTR Rider valued at $10,000 each; two Echo Backpack Blowers valued at $360 each and miscellaneous tools valued at $150.

The truck was entered into law enforcement database as stolen.

Industrial stove stolen from family restaurant

An industrial stove was stolen from Sunshine Family Cafe, located at 2375 E. Grand River in Genoa Township, on July 17, police said

Police said the manager of the restaurant told them the stove was sitting outside, behind the cafe, because it did not work and they were waiting for new parts to arrive.

The stove was valued at more than $2,500. Police said they checked at scrap metal yards, but did not located the unit.
