Hartland Teen Admits Stealing Guns, Cash and Could Face Theft Charges

A 15-year-old Hartland teen could be facing charges of theft in several neighborhood break-ins earlier this month involving stolen handguns, a rifle and nearly $10,000 in cash.

Police said the teen confessed to breaking into his friend's house to steal $130 from his wallet. The teen's parents asked police to further question their son about the other neighborhood break-ins because of the large sum of money he said he had found in a parking lot.

Police said the teen confessed to breaking into three houses in the area. As part of his confession, the teen said his friend, also 15, had helped break into one of the houses. The other two, including the incident on the 9000 block of Pine Hill Trail where , he told police he did alone.

The teen said he and his friend stole nearly $10,000 and agreed to split it evenly, and that he had broken into his friends house to take is half, police said.

Between the two teens, police said they recovered a Bersa 380 handgun, a Kel-Tec 380 handgun, a JC Higgins 22 rifle, $9,854 cash, $130 cash, a cigarette rolling machine, a box of cigarette tubes and a bag of tabacco.

Police said that both teens gave and signed written statements with their parents as witnesses, but neither have been arrested at this time.

Livingston County Detective Sgt. Gary Childers said both teens could face different charges for the different incidents.

Childers said the next step is for the deputy to submit the charges to the prosecutor's office for review, who will then decide whether or not to pursue the case.
