Fire Station 31 hosted the Fire Authority's Annual Soup Out Thursday.

The Brighton Area Firefighters and staff showed off their cooking skills during the Authority's Annual Soup Out at on Thursday.

Brighton Fire Chief Mike O'Brian said the free community event is something the fire department has been doing for 20 years.

"Everybody pitches in and makes soup," O'Brian said. "It gives us a chance to talk to the community without the formal setting. And everybody's got to eat lunch, right?"

O'Brian said he estimated the station would draw about 100 people in and out during the lunch hours.

The Soup Out featured 10 different soups and chilis, including O'Brian's own White Chicken Chili, that his wife Liz claimed he made all by himself.
