Police ID Man Struck and Killed by SUV as Brighton Man

There was no evidence that the driver of the SUV that struck Kevin Douglas Simon, 27, of Brighton was impaired or that speed was a factor.

A pedestrian killed early Sunday morning while walking along the road in Green Oak Township has been identified as Kevin Douglas Simon, 27, of Brighton.

Green Oak Township police said in a news release their preliminary investigation indicates that a 33-year-old South Lyon woman, who has not been identified, struck Simon with her 2002 Toyota Sequoia SUV about 12:30 a.m. Sunday, the Detroit Free Press reports.

The driver was southbound on Rickett Road and approaching Meadow Drive, area that is not illuminated by street lighting, when her vehicle struck Simon, who wa wearing dark-colored clothing, the release said.

She drove home and called 911 to report the accident. Police said there was no indication of impairment on the driver’s part of evidence that speed was a factor.

Simon was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics from the Green Oak Township Fire Department and Livingston County EMS.

It’s believed he died as a result of injuries sustained when he was struck by the SUV, but an autopsy will be performed.
