Police Identify Man Found Dead at Brighton State Recreation Area

The man was identified as Howell resident John Willey.

Police have identified the man found dead yesterday morning at Brighton Sate Recreation Area as John Willey, a resident of Howell.

A self-inflicted gunshot wound is the suspected cause of death.

Willey was a firefighter with the Howell Fire Department from 1990-2008, according to the department's website.

Police say hikers, who were in the woods training their dogs, located the body of a man around 11:30 a.m. Thursday in the area of Shafer and Brady Rd. in Genoa Township.

An autopsy was performed on Willey and investigators are waiting for the Medical Examiners report before completing the investigation.
