Police Respond to Complaint of Man on Hood of Car in Walmart Parking Lot

A man riding on the hood of a car in the parking lot of the Hartland Walmart early Sunday morning had police responding to the scene.

Police say after arriving on scene around 2:30 a.m., they met a Walmart employee in the parking lot who told police he had been assaulted.

According to a report from the Livingston County Sheriff's Department, the employee had been taking a work break and was sitting in his car when he saw a woman driving through the parking lot with a man laying on the hood of her car. 

The Walmart employee told police he saw the man "jumping on and off" the hood while the woman was trying to drive away. According to the report, the driver had eventually gotten out of her car and tried to get the man off her hood.

Police say the man then grabbed the woman, pushed her into the car and then got into the vehicle as well. The Walmart employee had then approached the car and when he had gotten close, police say the man jumped out and began attacking him.

According to the report, the suspect struck the Walmart employee five or six times in the head with a closed fist. The employee had then taken the suspect "to the ground" and police say the suspect threatened to kill the Walmart employee.

Police say two other men, friends of the suspect, intervened and pulled the Walmart employee off the suspect. The woman and the suspect had left the scene separately before police arrived, according to the report.

Responding officers had stopped the car the two friends were in as they were leaving the Walmart parking lot. Police say the men had driven there responding to a text from the woman driver who had told them the suspect was "abusing" her in the parking lot.

While police were on scene at Walmart, a second woman told police she was on the phone with the first woman who was being chased by the suspect.

According to the report, the woman then told told her friend they were stopped along Musson Rd. and the suspect was trying to get into her car. 

Police were sent to her location and according to the report, the suspect was gone before they arrived.
