Police Seek Help Finding Hit and Run Driver

A car struck Cook & Hayden Vision Care Center, off of Grand River Avenue and Brighton Lake Road early Sunday morning.

The is seeking help in identifying a driver who collided with the side of an optometry office then left the scene early Sunday morning.

According to police, the car was traveling eastbound on Grand River Avenue around 2:30 a.m., when it likely swerved off the road, crossed the sidewalk and struck the brick wall of the Cook & Hayden Vision Care Center at the corner of Brighton Lake Road.

The collision caused damage to the building's exterior and a surprising amount to the interior as well. The car struck between two low-bearing beams and shook the wall pretty hard, causing cabinetry and other items to spill out over the floor. Police said the building was empty at the time of the collision.

Police said the car is believed to be a 1999 to 2004 dark blue GMC Sierra or Yukon, with an after-market bug shield on the front of the hood. The car will have heavy damage to the passenger-side front end. It is unknown if the dirver was injured in the collision.

The building owner is offering a $500 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the driver responsible for the damage. The estimated cost of the damage has not yet been calculated.
