Police Watch as Drunk Man Tries to Steal Items from Meijer

The following information was supplied by the Livingston County Sheriff's Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

A suspicious man wandering around the parking lot of Meijer in the early morning hours was eventually questioned by police and arrested for larceny and operating a vehicle while intoxicated, according to a report from the Livingston County Sheriff's Department.

Around 3:30 a.m. on Jan. 12, police say a 26-year-old man was seen walking around the building of the Howell Meijer until he was able to gain entrance and ten minutes later, leave the building pushing a cart with unknown items inside.

The man then pushed the shopping cart to car parked in the Meijer lot and, according to the report, was seen attempting to open the driver's side and passenger side door. After leaving the shopping cart next to the unopened car, police then watched the man walk to the nearby parking lot of the Buffalo Wild Wings and get inside a different car.

After seeing the headlights of the vehicle come on, the officer pulled into the Buffalo Wild Wings parking lot where, according to the report, he saw the man bent over the steering wheel, trying to start the car.

After approaching the suspect, police say the officer asked for identification and was given a business card, credit card and eventually a fraudulent driver's license. Police say the suspect then lied on several occasions while being questioned about what he was doing in the Meijer parking lot and appeared intoxicated.

According to the report, police found two industrial-sized fans, property of Meijer's, in the left-behind shopping cart. Police say the suspect may also have been responsible for other damage inside the store and other missing items hidden behind vehicles around the Meijer parking lot.
