Report: 14-Year-Old Boy Told Police that Novi Pediatrician Molested Him; 17 Year Old Charged with Larceny of a Firearm

Area police departments provided the following reports. In all incidents where an arrest occurred, a charge is merely an accusation and not evidence of guilt.

Report: 14-Year-Old Boy Told Police that Novi Pediatrician Molested Him

The Farmington Hills and West Bloomfield Police departments investigated possible incidents of molestation of a teenage boy by his pediatrician, a close friend of his family.

A redacted police report issued to Patch under the Freedom of Information Act revealed some details of allegations against Jeffrey Lee Dembs, 61, a West Bloomfield resident and doctor at the My Kid's Doc office on 12 Mile Road near Meadowbrook Road in Novi.

Dembs is being accused on a count of first degree criminal sexual conduct and two counts of second degree criminal sexual conduct, all with a person younger than 13.

According to the report, the boy told police that Dembs invited him to spend the night during the weekends in 2009-10, when, the boy said, he was going through a difficult time at home.

The boy told police that the sexual incidents took place over 70 times over that two-year period, at one point moving from touching to oral sex. The boy told police that the incidents crossed state lines to Las Vegas, where he took a five-day trip with the doctor to watch a fight.

The boy told police after leaving from the last incident, he told his mother that he felt Dembs was becoming "controlling" and wanted to take a break from visiting him. The report states that Dembs told police that the two had a "fallout over being disciplined and getting into trouble."

Dembs told police he has never been married and does not have any children, but that a young man lived with him for about seven years, since age 14.

Dembs is expected to be in front of Oakland County Circuit Court Judge Daniel O'Brien for a pretrial exam Feb. 4.

If found guilty of first degree criminal sexual conduct, Dembs could face life in jail.

17 Year Old Arrested on Charges of Larceny of a Firearm

At least four handguns, some swords and a few long guns were taken from a home on the 200 block of Horizon sometime between mid-December and Jan. 13 according to White Lake Police.

A report filed with the department states that the man who owned the guns and swords told police the lock box he kept the weapons in was secure, and there were no signs of a break-in.

During the investigation, the report states, the man's 17-year-old son was questioned. He denied knowing anything about the missing guns, but one of them was found under his bed, the report states.

The teen was arrested on the scene and taken to the station where he was questioned by detectives.

According to the report, the teen told detectives he sold the guns to his friends.

Over the last week, two of the four handguns were found and collected by police, and all of the long guns were recovered. One handgun was found in Pontiac, the report states, and the other in Clarkston.

The swords and two handguns are still missing.

The teen was arraigned Jan. 15 on one charge of larceny of a firearm, a five-year felony, and one charge of resisting a police officer, a two-year felony. His bond was set at $10,000.

The incident remains under investigation.

Fenton Police Arrest Man Walking Home from Bar on Felony Warrant

Fenton Police arrested a 48-year-old Grand Haven man early Sunday morning on a felony warrant.

Fenton Police Chief Rick Aro said police received a complaint about an intoxicated man in the middle of the road near the 700 block of Torrey Road.

Aro said an officer contacted the man, who had blood in his mouth and told the officer he fell while walking home from the bar. While checking his information, the officer discovered the man had a felony drunk driving third warrant out of Grand Blanc. He was arrested held overnight at the Fenton Police Department, pending a court appearance on the warrant.

Canton Mother Faces Charges in Infant Daughter's Death

A Canton mother is facing charges after her newborn daughter was found dead in the home the woman shared with her parents, according to the Canton Observer. 

Emily Dunklee, 20, could face up to 10 years in prison on charges of disinternment/mutilation of a dead body following allegations of not immediately reporting the infant's death, the report indicated.

Canton Police Detective Sgt. Dave Shreiner told the Observer police were called to a home near Palmer and Sheldon roads Oct. 14, the report indicated. Dunklee was arraigned Friday at 35th District Court, where a not-guilty plea was entered, the report indicated. She was released on a $10,000 personal bond.

According to the report, no information is available on the time period between the infant's death and police being notified.
