UPDATE: US 23 Clear After Two Accidents Today

Crashes tied up traffic mid-day but coast is now clear, according to police.

Michigan State Police said US 23 is now clear after two separate vehicle accidents caused traffic tie-ups earlier today.

Around 1 p.m., Michigan State Police responded to a rollover crash about one mile north of I-96 in the northbound lanes, said Sgt. Mark Thompson of the Michigan State Police Brighton Post.

According to Thompson, the accident involved a 55-year-old Fenton woman driving a 2005 Ford Taurus.

"It appears the driver fell asleep and left the roadway, into the center median, lost control and rolled over," Thompson said, adding that she sought her own treatment for minor injuries.

Earlier in the day,  a car-semi crash had partially closed southbound US 23 near Hyne Road in Brighton Township, according to police.

Thompson said diesel fuel was leaking from the semi, and the right lane of the highway was closed. The car slid under the truck, Thompson said, but no injuries have been reported at this time.
