Teen Injured in Accident in Downtown Brighton

A Pinckney teen was taken to the University of Michigan hospital in Ann Arbor after a car crash after running into a railing outside a Brighton restaurant.

A Pinckney teen was injured in an accident this afternoon in downtown Brighton when she crashed into the railing in front of the restaurant on Grand River, reports the Livingston Daily.

The paper reports that Brighton Police Chief Thomas Wightman said the girl lost control of her vehicle after her accelerator pedal allegedly got stuck.

The Brighton Area Fire Department responded at 12:12 p.m. today. They took 12 minutes to remove the roof of her car to remove her from the damage. The Livingston County EMS was also on scene to help.

The only damage to the restaurant was the bent railing outside its front door. Fire Marshall Michael O'Brian said there was no one else injured.

The Pinckney teen was transported to the University of Michigan's hospital in Ann Arbor. Her current condition is not known.

Presuming she's okay, and not seriously injured--I'd be curious to know if texting was the culprit. How often do gas pedals stick?
