Three People Hospitalized After Hijacked Car Goes Wrong Way on I-96

The passenger for the suspect vehicle overtook the car at a traffic stop and drove the wrong way down the highway, striking another vehicle.

The Livingston Daily reported this morning that three people were injured after a driver left a traffic stop and drove the wrong way on eastbound I-96 near Brighton.

The Daily reported further that Michigan State Police trooper Rene Gonzalez originally stopped the suspect's vehicle around 10 a.m. on the eastbound side of I-96 near the Flint Road overpass.

A passenger in the car pushed the driver out, then proceeded to drive the car westbound on the eastbound I-96, eventually striking a Dodge Durango and causing it to roll over several times, according to the Daily's report.

Click On Detroit reported that the original driver of the escaped vehicle has yet to be found, and another passenger of the car is being held by police. Two other passengers of the suspect vehicle, along with the driver of the Durango, were taken to the University of Michigan Medical Center in Ann Arbor, the Daily reported.

The reason for why the passenger overtook the suspect vehicle is unknown, and the reason why Gonzalez made the traffic stop is also unknown.
