Trial Date Set for Suspect in I-96 Shootings

Raulie Wayne Casteel will head to his first of two trials on May 6.

The first trial date has been set for the man accused of 24 shootings along the I-96 corridor this past October.

According to the Lansing State Journal, Raulie Wayne Casteel, 43, has a trial date set for May 6.

Casteel will now face two different trials, one in Oakland County and one in Livingston County.

A total of 24 shootings took place between Oct. 16-27 that spanned four counties: Livingston, Oakland, Ingham and Shiawassee. The case is being prosecuted by Michigan Attorney General Bill Schuette for Livingston, Shiawassee and Ingham counties.

Livingston County Case

In Livingston County, Casteel faces seven criminal charges including terrorism, assault with intent to murder, carrying a dangerous weapon with unlawful intent and discharging a weapon from a vehicle, according to the LSJ article.

Casteel just waved his preliminary exam in Livingston County scheduled for Monday, which then sent the case to trial, according to the Lansing State Journal.

He will appear in Livingston County Circuit Court on April 12 for a pretrial hearing before the trial on May 6.Β 

Oakland County Case

Three weeks ago, Casteel waived his preliminary exam in the Oakland County case. He is scheduled to appear in Oakland County Circuit Court on April 4 for a pretrial hearing. A trial date has yet to be set.

In Oakland County, Casteel has been charged with 60 felonies, including multiple counts of assault with intent to commit murder.
