Turkey Spies on Michigan State Police Troopers

An unusual visitor came pecking at the Brighton Michigan State Police Post door on Old US-23.

Recently, during the early morning hours at the , day shift Troopers were in the squad room gathering gear, checking messages and getting ready to load their patrol cars.

Just normal beginning shift activity at the Brighton Post - or was it?

Sgt. Mark Thompson said one of the Troopers felt like someone - or something - was watching him, but couldn't see anything.

"The feeling didn't go away," he said in an email. "So the Trooper, trusting his sixth sense, looks out the glass door and at first didn't see anything. But then...it winked at him!"

Thompson said a turkey was standing at the back door and looking into the post, even with all of the movement, just watching Troopers.

"Though the turkey looked friendly enough, the Troopers came to a consensus that they would exit the Post through the garage door to load their gear into the patrol cars," Thompson said.

Thompson said the turkey has returned to the post several times, always looking through the glass door and sometimes sitting on the door mat for awhile before moving on.
