Video: Brighton Names Police Officer of the Year

Michael Arntz was named 2011 Police Officer of the Year during the Brighton City Council meeting Thursday night.

Brighton Police Chief Tom Wightman honored Officer Michael Arntz with the 2011 Police Officer of the Year award during the City Council meeting on Thursday night.

The award came during National Police Week.

Wightman said that each year, an officer is chosen by a departmental selection committee consisting of a patrol officer, a sergeant and the lieutenant who review nominations submitted by members of the department. The selection is then given to the chief for final approval.

Arntz has been a member of the Brighton Police Department since 2007.

"Mike is highly respected by his peers within our department," Wightman said. "He has a reputation for handling his calls for service with impartiality and exceptional dilligence. Mike approaches investigative cases with patient thoroghness, skill and determination to achieve what we like to call plain old good police work."
