14-Year-Old Eagle Scout Honored at City Council Meeting

Brighton High School Freshman Jack Wisbiski recently earned the rank of Eagle Scout.

Brighton City Council honored yet another newly minted Eagle Scout from Troop 350 during its meeting last week.

14-year-old Jack Wisbiski, a freshman at Brighton High School, was acknowledged by City Council members for earning the highest rank in Boy Scouts.

To earn an Eagle Scout rank, a boy scout must earn 21 merit badges, serve six months in a troop leadership position and plan and develop a community service project.

For Wisbiski's Eagle Project, he built a boardwalk on the Penosha Hiking Trail in the Brighton Recreation Area.

"Every year in the spring, the trail would flood and turn into a swamp," he said.

The boardwalk was 104 feet long and six feet wide and elevated off the ground to avoid the spring flooding.

Wisbiski said that construction began Oct. 27 and finished Nov. 4 and a total of 41 people worked 450 hours to complete the work.

The project cost $2,700 to build and was paid for through fundraising and Wisbiski's own savings.

Brighton Mayor Jim Muzzin remarked that Wisbiski was the youngest Eagle Scout he has seen and one of the best speakers.

What a great example of positive action taken by a young Brighton resident. Eagle Scout rank takes a lot of hard work, congratulations to an obviously dedicated and determined scout!
