Shut Down Affects Brighton Father's Chances for Life Saving Treatment

Mark Howell of Brighton is stuck waiting for a life-saving treatment due to the government shutdown.

Mark Howell, the 31-year-old Brighton man who was diagnosed with stage-four melanoma just two weeks after his son was born about a year ago, is stuck waiting for a life-saving treatment due to the government shutdown.

According to a story from Fox 2 News Detroit, Howell’s doctors are recommending an aggressive procedure to attack the cancer, however, the procedure is only available at the National Institute of Cancer, a facility that is now closed off to new patients as a result of the government shutdown.Β
