Brighton Library Celebrates Children and Reading in April

The family centered activities run April 9 through April 23.

Families and kids of all ages are invited to join in the interactive fun, games, stories and crafts throughout April as the kicks off the Month of the Young Child, National Drop Everything and Read (DEAR) Week and a book fair to benefit the Library.

National (DEAR) Week is April 9 – 14

Families across Livingston County will be dropping everything to spend time reading together April 9–14 during National Drop Everything and Read (DEAR) Week. Families are invited to kick off DEAR Week festivities at the Brighton District Library with book-related activities for the whole family. Activities include a book swap, designing a book quilt, participating in a scavenger hunt, helping to create the world's longest drawing and selecting new books to read. Participants will receive prizes, and all ages are invited.

Month of the Young Child; Early Years Are Learning Years

Friday, April 20, 10:30–11:30 a.m.

State and local officials Bill Rogers, State Representative, and Greg Grey, Superintendent of Brighton Area Schools will read favorite stories Friday, April 20 from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., at the Brighton Library. Kids can dance to songs, hear rhymes and meet mascots from the Brighton High School “Bulldogs” and “Red,” from Red Robin Restaurant. Following the story time, children ages 1-5 will receive a free book. Refreshments will be available. No registration is required.

Book fair Benefit for the Brighton Library

Friday, April 20 to Sunday, April 23

The Brighton District Library and Barnes & Noble have collaborated to offer a book fair benefit for the Library Friday, April 20 through Sunday, April 23 at the .

On Saturday, April 21, from 12–1 p.m., library staff will offer stories, songs and rhymes to Barnes & Noble patrons. At 1 p.m. kids can visit with Tigger and Pooh as they stop by for a quick visit before they head off to the Hundred Acre Wood.

A percentage of each purchase will benefit the Library’s Summer Reading Program. Supporters can also contribute by visiting BN.COM/book fairs to support the library online from April 20-April 23. Enter Book fair ID 10730034 at checkout.
