Brighton Library Hosts Parent Appreciation Day: A Family Celebration

Featuring entertainment for all ages, Saturday, March 10 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The will host a free parent appreciation family-fun day on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., featuring entertainment for all ages. Throughout the day, there will be refreshments, door prizes, storytelling, parenting displays and free books for children ages 1-5.

At 11:00 a.m., children and parents won’t want to miss the playful, interactive musical antics of the Merry Music Maker. This high-energy concert will have kids singing and dancing, while parents will enjoy the laughter and contagious silliness.

“In celebration of Parenting Awareness Month, Parent Appreciation Day is a time to thank parents, grandparents and all those individuals who strive to make a difference in a child’s life,” said Carla Sharp, Head of Youth Services at the Brighton District Library. “As a society, we all benefit from effective parenting, and on March 10, we want to recognize those individuals and the work they do.”

This special day offers individuals a time to have fun and relax, while gathering information related to parenting, child care, and education. This year, the Brighton District Library has expanded the number of agencies and organizations having informational displays available to those attending. They include: Michigan Association for Gifted Children, Head Start, and Michigan Association of Police Child Identification Program among others. 

Parenting Awareness celebrates people who are parenting our children, and seeks to:

  • draw public attention to the critical importance of effective parenting across the lifespan;
  • raise awareness that effective parenting is a key factor in alcohol, tobacco, and other drug prevention;
  • promote education and resources for developing parenting skills year around;
  • raise awareness that everyone benefits from parent education and support; 
  • encourage and assist in the development of parent networks;
  • and, celebrate the month of March as Parenting Awareness Month.
