Brighton Township Manager Warns Against Scams

Manager Dan Bishop warned residents against scam artists as the weather warms up.

The warm weather increases the amount of door-to-door solicitations as well as the number of yard work and other outdoor scams.

Bishop said he has recently received three complaints involving residents receiving a card in the mail stating a company would be testing water on behalf of the township.

"We have not hired anyone to test water for us," Bishop said. "Especially if you have a private well."

Another scam that has happened in the past are residents paying for tree trimming services and the company leaving branches and debris behind claiming the township would be by to clean it up. Bishop said that Brighton Township does not have a Department of Public Works to clean up such debris, so the residents would be responsible for any mess left behind.

"Be very, very careful with these sales entrepreneurs because you get what you pay for," Bishop said.
