City Council OKs Sports Bar's Site Plan

City Council approved The Pound's site plan Thursday night after resolving concerns about its rooftop dining and architectural design in weeks past.

Brighton residents will have a new venue to frequent downtown this summer for food and entertainment.

Thursday night conditionally approved the site plan for The Pound, after resolving concerns about its rooftop patio and architectural design over the past few weeks.

The Pound will be housed in the now vacant Singer Press building at the corner of Main and West Streets. The restaurant will offer rooftop dining and will bring a slew of fresh entertainment to downtown.

Described in its proposal to the city as having a type of atmosphere, with a more modern look and feel, the bar will hold trivia nights, a local comic night and a local musician night to keep Brighton residents fed and entertained.

Kevin Montagano, one of The Pound's developers, says that the plan is to keep the menu simple with items like pizza, burgers, wings, calzones and a couple of specialty salads. He says that they plan to reach out to local Brighton businesses, such as and , in an effort to use local products and support local businesses.

The Pound, named after fighting Bulldogs, hopes to have strong ties to the community, says Montagano. He says they plan to reach out to in hopes that The Pound can host pre-game meals and celebrations.

“We want to be the place that people go to for dinner before the game and come to after the game to eat and hang out,” said Montagano.

The new sports bar seems to be a different breed of restaurant when compared to other restaurants downtown, making some excited for its arrival.

“I sit on the DDA board and when this schematic was presented everyone at the table took one look at it and said it’s way out of the box and it’s exactly what downtown Brighton needs,” Councilmember Shawn Pipoly said. “I’ll take a Main Street seat.”

Montagano says that he hopes to have the new establishment open by June this year.
