Detroit Tigers Hall of Famer Rick Ferrell and Magic Fun On-Tap at the Library

Tales of baseball legends and magical illusions offer entertainment this week.

Jump-start your end of summer at the Library this week with two entertaining programs that are sure to be a hit. On Monday, Aug. 13 from 7-8 p.m., Rick Ferrell Knuckleball Catcher offers baseball fans of all ages a rare opportunity to hear about one of baseball’s most beloved players, Rick Ferrell. Ferrell’s daughter, Kerrie Ferrell, will present a lively slide-show about her father's long career in major league baseball. On Friday, Aug. 17 from 10:30-11:15 a.m. families can enjoy Professor Steve Zieman’s Magic and Fun Show!

Join us for front row seats to learn all about Detroit Tigers Hall of Famer and eight-time All-Star player Rick Ferrell. Hear about Ferrell’s major league catching exploits including tales of Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig, and pitcher/brother Wes Ferrell. Learn about Rick’s 42 years (1950-’92) with the Detroit Tigers as a player, coach, scout, general manager and vice president. Professor Steve Zieman’s Magic & Fun Show Aug. 17 10:30-11:15 a.m.

Kids will be amazed by Steve Zieman’s magic and fun tricks. Zieman is an accredited magician and children’s entertainer with more than 28 years of experience. He specializes in creating and presenting educational programs for elementary school-age children that build self-esteem. In addition to being a magician, Zieman works as a Wayne State University Communications instructor and as a radio and television personality. For children 6 years and older. Seating is limited.
