Want to share your passion for reading? Consider joining one or both of the Library’s adult book clubs. No matter what your tastes are, our book clubs cover a range of new authors and books to read. Join us and discover a new world of books.

Our newest adult book discussion group Brunch Bunch meets at 11am on the second Tuesday of each month between October and April and again June through August.  Bring your appetite and thoughts for this book club. Registration can be done, and copies can be reserved, via phone or at the Reference Desk 810-229-6571 ext. 227.

The evening Adult Book Discussion Group meets at  7pm on the third Monday of each month between September and May (excluding December). Led by library staff, the group welcomes everyone; no registration required.

Brunch Bunch Book Discussion, Tuesday, 10/9, 11:00 am - 12:30 pm

October's title is Year of Wonders by Geraldine Brooks. When an infected bolt of cloth carries plague from London to an isolated village, a housemaid named Anna Frith emerges as an unlikely heroine and healer. Through Anna's eyes we follow the story of the fateful year of 1666, as she and her fellow villagers confront the spread of disease and superstition. As death reaches into every household and villagers turn from prayers to murderous witch-hunting, Anna must find the strength to confront the disintegration of her community and the lure of illicit love. As she struggles to survive and grow, a year of catastrophe becomes instead annus mirabilis, a "year of wonders."

Adult Book Discussion Group, Monday, 10/15, 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm

October's title is The Sweetness at the Bottom of the Pie by Alan Bradley. It is the summer of 1950–and at the once-grand mansion of Buckshaw, young Flavia de Luce, an aspiring chemist with a passion for poison, is intrigued by a series of inexplicable events: A dead bird is found on the doorstep, a postage stamp bizarrely pinned to its beak. Then, hours later, Flavia finds a man lying in the cucumber patch and watches him as he takes his dying breath.

For Flavia, who is both appalled and delighted, life begins in earnest when murder comes to Buckshaw. “I wish I could say I was afraid, but I wasn’t. Quite the contrary. This was by far the most interesting thing that had ever happened to me in my entire life.”
