Few Candidates as Brighton School Board Filing Deadline Nears

At least three candidates will vie for two seats this fall on the Brighton Board of Education.

With the filing deadline just hours away, there are only three candidates for two positions on the Brighton Board of Education. The deadline for filing is this afternoon at 4:30 p.m. The general election will be held on Nov. 8.

The candidates so far are incumbents Greg Rassel and Beth Minert and challenger Nicholas Fiani. Rassel is the current board vice president and Minert the board secretary.  Fiani is the son of attorney Jules Fiani, a past Brighton Board of Education candidate.

Minert is a retired Brighton teacher and a member of the district’s Health Education Advisory Council.  Rassel is director of recreation and public service in Royal Oak and serves and is the Brighton Area Schools' liaison to the Southeastern Livingston County Recreation Authority (SELCRA).
