Parent Appreciation Day: A Family Celebration

Zippity2Dads will perform at the library event Saturday.

The will host a free parent appreciation family fun day from 1-4 p.m. Saturday, featuring entertainment for the entire family. At 2 p.m., children and parents won’t want to miss the catchy, upbeat lyrics and music of Zippity2Dads, who will perform a live concert.

The event will also feature refreshments, door prizes, storytelling and parenting information displays.

“Parent Appreciation Day is a celebration of the outstanding work that parents and caregivers do every day to raise healthy, caring, contributing individuals,” said Carla Sharp, head of youth services at the Brighton District Library. “As a society, we all benefit from effective parenting, and on March 26, we want to recognize those individuals and the work they do.”

Sharp shares these reading tips for parents:

  • Talk and sing to your children: They love to hear your voice. Make up silly rhymes.
  • Make book-sharing a regular part of your day. As they get older, ask them to make predictions about what will happen next in the book.
  • Be patient when they ask you to read the same story over and over again. They’re learning their basic prereading skills.

Parent Appreciation Day is presented by the Brighton District Library and Child Connect for Family Success and is sponsored by Great Start Livingston.
