Pete Hoekstra Pumps Gas, Washes Windshields at Brighton BP

A Brighton gas station was the backdrop for a weekend campaign stop by U.S. Senate candidate Pete Hoekstra. 

The Grand Rapids Republican talked with customers at the BP station on West Grand River on Saturday morning. He pumped gas and washed customers' windows while talking about the impact his opponent's administration has had on the local economy.

 "Debbie Stabenow has failed to stand up for Michigan families," said Hoekstra in a statement. "Gas prices are up and household incomes are down, we are going in the wrong direction."

According to the Hoekstra campaign, gas prices have increased by 72 percent since Stabenow, a Lansing Democrat, was elected to her second term in the Senate. 

In a weekend interview posted on LivingstonDaily.com, Stabenow responded to Hoekstra's claims and criticized Hoekstra for not calling for an end to oil subsidies while he was a member of the U.S. House.
