Start 2013 with New Programs and Classes for Adults

Enjoy movies, books, and crafts or learn about business, computers, and recycling.

This January, the Brighton Library is offering an assortment of adult programs to jump-start your New Year. Learn something new about finance or how to use your eReader, sit back, relax and watch an Oscar nominated movie, join our book club or stop by and make yourself a one-of-a-kind bracelet. Programs

SCORE Small Business Coaching, 1/9, 5 - 8 pm - Do you have a business idea and want to know whether it's viable? Are you looking for funding? Meet one-on-one for up to an hour with SCORE business coach John Berkaw. Call to register.

Sunday Movie at the Library, 1/13, 1/27 & 2/10, 2/24, 2 - 4 pm - Join us for a fun Sunday movie complete with popcorn and a beverage. Movies in January and February will be 2013 Oscar Nominated films. All movie titles TBA and updates will be posted online.

Genealogy Assistance, 1/21, 6:30 - 8:30 pm - Join Livingston County Genealogical Society representatives in the Brighton Room for some one-on-one help with your genealogy research. Both beginning and advanced researchers welcome.

Adult Book Discussion Group, 1/21, 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm - Join us for our book discussion group, now in its 16th year. This month we’ll discuss The Leftovers by Tom Perotta. The Leftovers is a powerful and deeply moving book about regular people struggling to hold onto a belief in their futures. Copies may be available at the circulation desk or can be ordered through our shared catalog system.

Recycling and Michigan, 1/22, 7 - 8 pm - Kerrin O'Brien will be at the Library to discuss the state of recycling in Michigan and the importance of recycling to our economy and environment. Learn about what’s developing at the state level and how you can make a difference at home and out there in the world. Registration begins 1/8.

Adult Craft: Beaded Safety Pin Bracelet, 1/28, 6:30 - 8 pm – Limit of 12 participants. Registration begins 1/14.

Managing Finances and Organizing Debt, 1/30, 6:30 pm - 7:30 pm - Join us for a monthly financial planning series provided by the Hantz Group. January's session will focus on Managing Finances and Organizing Debt. Registration begins 1/16.

Computer Classes 

eReader Lab, 1/9, 1/16, 1/23, 1/30, 10:30 - 11:30 am - During the month of January, we'll host an eReader lab the last four Wednesdays of the month. Visit us on the 9th, 16th, 23rd and 30th for some post-holiday help!

Open Computer Lab:Every Wednesday, 3 - 5 pm - Learn general computer skills at your own pace or come in with your specific computer problems.

Introduction to Computers, 1/21, 2 - 4 pm - Are you new to using computers? This class will teach you about how computers work. No experience necessary.

Intro to Computer Skills: Mouse and Keyboard Skills, 1/28, 2 - 4 pm - Practice using a mouse and keyboard in a comfortable environment. No experience necessary.
