U.S. Rep. Rogers Might Run for Levin's Senate Seat

U.S. Rep. Mike Rogers is considering a move from the House to the Senate, stating that he may run for Sen. Carl Levin's open seat in 2014.

"I am giving the Senate race serious consideration," Rogers told the Detroit Free Press on Saturday.

Levin, a Democrat who has been in office for more than 30 years, announced last week that he won't be running for re-election.

Rogers (R-Howell) has served as the representative for Michigan's 8th District, which includes Brighton and Hartland, since 2001. He also serves as the chairman of the House Intelligence Committee and is a former FBI agent.

According to the Free Press, other Republicans who said they may run for Levin's seat include Secretary of State Terri Lynn Land and U.S. Rep. Justin Amash of Cascade Township. Democrat U.S. Rep. Gary Peters, of Bloomfield Township, said he also might be running.
