"I'm just very adament that people know what's going on in their city and country," Casey said. "It's our right to vote. Why give up our right? I'd hate to be living in a country that didn't allow it."

Brighton resident Kari Carothers, a Novi teacher, and her two daughters, both Hilton Elementary students, were enjoying their day off of school. Carothers was casting her vote at the BECC before taking her daughters to the movies to see "Puss in Boots."

"I believe it's important to set a good example for my students (by voting)," Carothers said. "It's our given right to vote. You can't complain about the system if you don't go out and vote."
