Expressive Clothesline Art Displayed During April

LACASA hosts the Clothesline Project awareness event throughout April. Join the "T-Search" Scavenger Hunt for a chance to win a $100 gift card from Tanger Outlet Center.

Watch for clotheslines hanging throughout libraries and retail outlets in Livingston County this month.

LACASA opens its 15th Annual Clothesline Project on April 1 as part of National Sexual Assault Awareness Month.

The Clothesline Project features a collection of T-shirts made by survivors as well as their families, friends and supporters. Each shirt is an artistic expression about the impact that interpersonal violence has on individuals and the community.

“This project helps raise awareness and start conversations,” said Nicole Matthews-Creech, LACASA’s community education director.

“These displays reveal the varied emotions that surround abuse and sexual assault including pain, anger, shame, healing, and hope,” Creech said.

“Each collection tells a story and conveys that interpersonal violence is not just a personal issue or a criminal issue, but one that is far-reaching and affects so many people.” said Creech.

The LACASA Clothesline Project will be on display throughout April at the Brighton Area District Library, Fowlerville District Library, Hamburg Township Library, Hartland Cromaine Library, Howell Carnegie Library, and Pinckney Community Library.

Shirt collections also will be on display at LACASA and at participating retail stores at Tanger Outlet Center in Howell.

A T-Search Scavenger Hunt, created to help raise awareness and funds for LACASA, opens April 1 at Tanger Outlet Center. Participants may search for hidden shirts at retail stores for an opportunity to win a $100 Tanger gift card
