Brighton Superintendent's Contract Extended 1 Year

Board of Education members voted to extend the contract during its Monday night meeting.

Brighton Area Schools Superintendent Greg Gray will be sticking around through the end of the 2017-2018 school year.

Board of Education members voted to extend the contract Monday night after Gray received a positive performance evaluation.

Board Secretary Nick Fiani abstained from voting, saying he has not been on the board long enough to evaluate Gray's performance.

Board President Miles Vieau said that the board rated Gray on a 4-point scale in 10 categories. His overall performance rating was 3.75. Last year, Gray received a performance rating of 3.9 out of 4.0.

"It's extremely high, it's excellent" Vieau said of Gray's score.

Gray received his highest scores, both 4's, in board relations and professional leadership. One of his lowest scores was a 3.5 in fiscal and facilities management.

The contract does not include any financial changes. Gray's salary will remain at $135,000 due to the 7 percent pay cut he took in 2011.
