Brighton School Board Schedules Special Meeting After Superintendant's Announcement

Brighton Superintendant Greg Gray announced on Monday he was a finalist for the superintendent position for the Portage Public School District.

A special school board meeting will be held on Thursday after Brighton Area Schools Superintendant Greg Gray announced he was a finalist for the superintendent position for the Portage Public School District.

According to the Press & Argus, Gray made the announcement to the school board on Monday evening.

In March of 2012, Board of Education members unanimously voted to extend Gray's five year contract another year, effective through June 30, 2017, after a glowing evaluation of his performances in the district.

The contract, however, did not include any financial changes and Gray’s $135,000 salary was to remain the same.

In September of 2011, Gray had taken a 7 percent pay cut which reduced his pay from $145,000 to $135,000, according to a previous report.

The special board meeting will begin at 7 p.m. and according to WHMI, the agenda will include an administrative contract of employment for Gray that proposes a significant salary increase.

The meeting will be held in the Board Room of the Brighton Education Community Center at 125 South Church Street.
