SELCRA wants you to start Walking!

Just 30 minutes of exercise a day has many health benefits!

Congratulations to SELCRA's Walk Michigan participant and winner Fred Wark! He
participated in SELCRA's Walk Michigan program and was entered to win a trip to the Labor Day Bridge Walk! SELCRA was also informed that his wife just walked five miles and is ready to walk the bridge.

Walk Michigan is a non-competitive program that began in 1985 and was created by the Michigan Recreation and Parks Association. The program was organized to provide Michiganders with opportunities to imporove their health and fitness while encouraging them to enjoy the recreational facilities and parks resources provided in their local community.

Unfortunately, the Walk Michigan program is over but there are tons of opportunities to walk and improve your fitness! According to the American Heart Association, heart disease is this country’s number one killer. By exercising as little as 30 minutes each day you can help reduce your risk and make your heart stronger.

Keeping track of your walking is now easier than ever! The AHA has an app for your phone where you can log your time, distance, activities, and your meals. You can find local walking clubs and create your personalized walking plan.

While your kids are playing SELCRA’s fall soccer or flag football you could be walking and logging your distance! Walking is also a great way to reduce stress, meet other people, and pump up your heart!
