Unique Merchandise Keeps Customers Coming Back to Brighton Boutique

Trading Closets Consignment Boutique in Brighton is an upscale consignment shop that offers two levels of small business shopping.

For small business owner Denise Hoganson, owner of Trading Closets Consignment Boutique in Brighton, seeing her large customer base on a regular basis is just one of the favorite parts about her job.

"Some people come in every couple days to see what's new because we're constantly changing," she said.

With more than 7,000 consigners and even more repeat customers, Hoganson said she enjoys being able to meet new people and see familiar faces walk through her doors every week.

Re-locating to their current two-story location four years ago, Hoganson encourages the community to "shop small" because "that's what keeps us in business compared to big box stores."

From children and adult clothing to furniture, jewelry, purses and shoes, the store is constantly changing with unique merchandise coming from the store's "loyal" customers base, according to Hoganson's daughter Rachelle Seguin who helps run the business with her mother.

"We have been open for over eight years and are fortunate enough to be doing very well thanks to all of our loyal customers," Seguin said. "With over seven thousand consignors we have built a shopping mecca for "like-new" items to be purchased at lower prices. Who doesn't love a deal these days?"

To celebrate their customer base, Trading Closets Consignment Boutique will host their annual Ladies Nigh Out Open House on Thursday, November 14.  The evening will also feature several local venders, food, beverages, drawing, 20 percent off sale store wide and other drawings and prizes.

"This event is always a great time for the ladies and is an annual tradition for most," Seguin said. "Seeing as though it's opening weekend for hunting season, most of the ladies like to come out shop and have a good time while their husbands are away hunting."

Trading Closets Consignment Boutique is located at 2120 Grand River Anex #600 in Brighton.

Small Business Saturday, observed on Nov. 30 this year, encourages holiday shoppers to patronize businesses that are small and local.
