Updated: Brighton Wrestlers Win Regional

Bulldogs headed to state quarterfinals.

The wrestling team is headed to the state quarterfinals in Battle Creek.

The Bulldogs defeated Holt, 43-21, for a regional title on Wednesday evening.

Brighton edged Grand Ledge, 39-26, in the first semifinal and Holt beat Portage, 48-17, in the second semifinal.

The quarterfinals will take place at Kellogg Arena on Feb. 25. The Division 1 matches will take place at 3:15 p.m. The pairings will be announced by the MHSAA by 6 p.m. Sunday.

Several Brighton wrestlers earned two wins on the day: Brandon Hill, at 160 pounds, won by pin against Grand Ledge and in double overtime against Holt's Seth Hanton; Vince Tkac (189); Kurt Alder (215); Jackson Pizzo (112); Dan Koenig (119); C.J. Brish (130); and Aaron Calderon (140).Β

Keith Kooperman (135) got a win against Grand Ledge and Jordan Maschke (171) got a victory against Holt.Β
