Brighton Rec Volunteer Work Day

Brighton Recreation Area needs you to help remove glossy buckthorn and restore ecosystem balance at its upcoming work day from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday, July 24, 2011

Help! Glossy buckthorn is growing in this beautiful fen. Join in removing this invasive non-native plant and restore balance to this ecosystem.

The hope is tocontrol outlier buckthorn in the open areas as well as cut larger patches that surround the perimeter of the fen.

Meet at the entrance to Murray Lake Campground on Bauer Road, between Cunningham Lake and Bishop Lake Roads.

Please remember to wear appropriate clothing for outdoor work including long pants and closed-toe shoes and to bring drinking water!  We will have work gloves, but feel free to bring your own if you have them.

Waterproof boots, either knee-high rubber boots or hip waders, also are recommended for this site, but not necessary. Rubber boots are available to borrow, upon request. Old boots that you don't mind getting muddy work too.
