Teen Fitness at the Library
Brighton District Library features exercise from around the world as part of its summer reading program from 3-4 p.m. June 24 and July 8.
Join Joanie Maciak, certified Zumba instructor, for an afternoon of fun Latin-based aerobic inspired dance. Zumba, created in the 1990s combines international music with dance. The upbeat exercise music, mostly traditional Latin salsa and merengue, uses fast and slow rhythms and resistance training for fitness and weight loss.
On July 8, instructor Renee Hadley will demonstrate the art of Polynesian (hula) dancing using grass skirts, leis and other props. The Hula is considered a very meaningful dance where every movement of the body represents something. Historically both men and women have done the hula using hands and other movements to tell a story. No experience is necessary.
